Verified Reviewer |The Virtual Assistant never connects me
AND I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES.
THIS EMAIL WAS COPIED FROM DRAFTS AND NOT EMAILED ON 2023****, NEED SEAGATE EMAIL ADDRESS
Here is my case number: 1228****
I have an external drive that I purchased some time ago, but I just began really using it in February of this year.
PIN: 38EAPR-505, S/N: NABNLRLS
I use it on an iMac and have it set up for ExFat. Without my permission or doing anything, it disconnects and reconnects itself several times a day.
It is annoying and need to be replaced. It is under warranty. Also when I removed it to take a photo of the P/N and S/N I noticed it was quite warm.
I do not feel it is necessary to submit the drive to you for data recovery. I should be able to copy the drive myself.
Can you also tell me if Seagate has large SOLID STATE drives available.
It has been suggested that I replace this drive with a solid state one.
It is not necessary for me to send you the drive so that you can recover the info. As I said I have taken most of the info off and I know it can be recovered . ( a few things I have not gotten off the drive, for lack of space.)
Since it is still under warranty can you send me a replacement drive and I will remove the remaining info and return the drive to you, if necessary.
P.S. I have written you before, but you did not answer.
Was trying to find an email for Seagate so I could send this directly to you not just DATA RECOVERY SERVICES. But I have tried to use the VIRTUAL ASSISTANT on the SEAGATE site, too.
Preferred solution: Since the drive is under warranty, I expect it to be replaced. I would prefer to get an SSD if possible. This matter has gone on since Feb 2023.

Verified ReviewerWarranty failure, case # 1228****
A few weeks ago, my LaCie Rugged 4tb external hard drive failed and LaCie approved replacement under warranty.
LaCie arranged a cross-shipment and all seemed well until UPS notified of an unspecified problem and package did not arrive by its Weds6/21 deadline.
Calls to UPS resulted in UPS telling me that I had to call Seagate and instruct them to file a claim.UPS stated that they could not proceed with investigation without call from Segate, and UPS could not call Seagate, so for some reason I had to do all the work.
I called LaCie and we discussed cross-shipping a replacement for the drive lost/damaged/whatever in-transit.
The next morning, I got a call from UPS stating they were opening an investigation that would require 8 business days.
I called Seagate, advised them of this and explained that I did NOT want to wait 8 business days for them to start over on a problem arising from their own choice of shipper.
Ended up going in circles for an hour with inept and incompetent customer service who needed an hour ro confirm what I told her and tell me what I told her an hour earlier and accomplish absolutely nothing.
Subsequent calls confirmed Seagates absence of supervisors and inability to keep promises to call me back at agreed times to discuss problems.
So now for a simple cross-shipment under warranty that should have taken less than 7 business days, were talking 7 business days failed cross-shipment + 2 business days to initiate an investigation + 8 business days to investigate + 7 more business days to re-do the failed cross shipment, assuming no further screw-ups.
Thats 24 business days, or 4.8 weeks to homor a warranty!
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
THERE IS NO REASON UPS AND SEAGATE CANNOT CONCURRENTLY CROSS-SHIP THE REPLACEMENT WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY INVESTIGATING UPS FAILURE TO DELIVER.
THERE IS NO GOOD REASON TO SUBJECT ME TO AN ADDITIONAL 2-3 WEEKS DELAY DUE TO ISSUES ON YOUR END.
SEAGATE CHOSE UPS TO CROSS-SHIP THE REPLACEMENT DRIVE, SO SEAGATE MUST ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR UPS FAILURE.
IN DELAYING REPLACEMENT UNTIL AFTER INVESTIGATION, INSTEAD OF CONCURRENTLY, SEAGATE IS CHOOSING TO MAKE THIS MY PROBLEM INSTEAD OF THEIR OWN.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
PLEASE IMMEDIATELY CROSS-SHIP THE REPLACEMENT HARD DRIVE YOU SHOULD HAVE SENT ON JUNE 23. DO NOT NEEDLESSLY DELAY 8 BUSINESS DAYS.
- Good storage when it works
- Lousy customer support
- Failing warranty
Preferred solution: replacement, IN A TIMELY MANNER, and something done about hassle and wasted time and delays.
User's recommendation: great until something goes wrong, then becomes a Larry-Curly-Moe operation.

Verified ReviewerSMR disk is usable once full ... no trim support. Release a firmware update with trim support
Dear Seagate representative:
I bought 3 drives: ST8000DM004
They got recently almost full. As they got fuller they got slower and slower ...
They are basically unusable.
After that their speed came down horribly. They stop working for minutos long without nothing happening and the suddenly they start to respond again.
I know this is one of the horrible behaviors of SMR disks. These disks are basically garbage now ... I want to use them again, clean them "new" so they don't have to "re"-shingle again every time they write something.
The least worst way to fix this is with a firmware update with trim support.
Make it. If not, these disks are a SCAM.

Trim is a feature found on SSDs and Enterprise drives only. Consumer drives in general do not have this feature unless it is a SSD.
Trim is only has a use in RAID arrays. Besides the use in SSDs.
